Temporary Work Visa
(H-2)

The H-2 visa is the visa no one knows about. This visa allows someone to come to the United States to work for a business which is able to show that it has a temporary need for a worker. We have to show the government that the U.S. business has a short term need for a worker and was unable to find a qualified U.S. worker. These applications must be crafted carefully because the government will do its own advertising to be sure that no qualified U.S. workers are available. These visas come in three (3) sets of one (1) year meaning that the foreign national may be able to stay in the U.S. for a maximum of three (3) years.

Example Number One:
Mike has a carpet business in Houston, Texas. He offers the following services: carpet repair, floor installation, and tiling. His friend, Jack, would like to come to the United States. Jack provides Mike a letter from an employer showing that Jack has a year of experience in carpet repair and/or floor installation. Jack is able to get a work visa to enter the United States to work.

Example Number Two:
Katya has a dry cleaning business in Spring, Texas. She has a friend who wants to come as a seamstress or as a spot remover specialist. The friend presents a letter of employment verification and is able to obtain a work permit to enter the United States. A few months later, the friend marries and gets a greencard.
